I know an elder who is one of those self-righteous ones. In fact,the whole family is. Always held up as shining examples. He caused my husband to lose money and business so his study could benefit, even though my husband was a brother. Well his son was later found out to be gay. What goes around comes around. Not such a shining example anymore, but still an elder of course.

just looked up my old high school in classmates.com, i saw this dude who was a couple years older than me, didn't really know him but i knew his brother (who left the org the same time i did), his dad kicked him out of the house and he lived in his car, they are sons of one of the elders (assholes) who df'd my dad.
the good son was a good little jw that did everything a jw father (elder) would want his son to do, on his bio on classmates.com he says that he is gay, ha ha ha ha.

One more down the drain-marriage-divorce
by sspo ini mentioned in the past that my wife turned me in for apostasy and because of it she filed for separation ( she is too holy and spiritual to file for divorce) .she came home this afternoon and started packing a few things to move to an apartment.. i am still going to meetings but it is not enough for her, i reminded her of 1 cor 7 where it talks about a wife not leaving an unbeleiver as long as he is willing to stay with her but she says that does not apply to apostasy.
go figure!.
she is free to worship her god, i'm not stopping her but she has been blessed by the powerful gb who the witnesses exalts above god himself that tells them they have the right to leave a mate if it is spiritual endangerment.

So sorry-this must be devastating. Jesus said there is only one reason for divorce. This is just another example of them making their own rules that go above the Bible itself. I hope she sees the wrongness of the way she's treating you. Maybe some time alone and reflection will bring her back to you. But all the support she gets at the hall will have to wear off first. Then she will see just how much these people are truly not there for her. Not like you have been.Don't give up hope.

Shunning is inhumane. When you are told you can live forever, never have to experience death because the end is imminent and that your children will never reach the age to start school, shunning is not something you give much thought to. I disagree that we came into this with full knowledge of the damage that shunning can do to a family. If all those things I was promised had come true, I never would have known the pain of shunning.
That said, it does need to be made known to the public. The jws are not the loving and benign religion that they say they are. We all need to make this known to anyone we can. I used to hide the destructive side of this religion when I was still in. Now I let others know whenever I can.There are some countries that consider jws to be a danger to society and breaking up families is one of the reasons they will not grant them status as a religion. I have 2 disfellowshipped children and can testify to the division and misery this policy causes. But I don't see it changing through laws, only through individual action and enough bad publicity. Image is everything to the watchtower society.

Come to find out,the churches opened their buildings to house and cool those in need in nearby areas. evev some of the witnesses stayed in these churches and were very well taken care of,including beds and 3 meals a day. Where was all the brotherly love? The witnesses made no provisions for their members. Who would you want to count on in time of disaster-the Witnesses?

Use the time at the meetings to critically anilyze what is being said. Watch for the control techniques that are being used. This will help to cement in your mind that this is just men controlling people. Look up scripture references used and read the context to see how they take things out of context. Make notes if you can. And when you can't take it anymore,just read the Bible-whatever part interests you.

Celebrating holidays
by dobbie injust wondering if you still abstain from celebrating christmas birthdays etc or if you do celebrate them how long did it take to feel comfy with doing it after you'd left the jws?i'm fading at the moment but although me and hubby have talked about spending xmas with our nonjw families and i told him i was going to start sending bday cards to my family, the thought of it scares me like its a big huge sin.does it ever feel natural to celebrate holidays?i used to love all that sort of thing before i was a witness but when my mum and stepdad wished me happy bday last month it felt really odd and i was uneasy.i find it v confusing cos i can sort of see that jesus wasn't born in dec. but maybe he can have 2 bdays like the queen!also not being able to send fathers day cards this year was the final straw for me i felt so bad about it so i have lots of making up to do but just hope i can enjoy it all without feeling bad.
i know they say some bday things have pagan origins but there are things jws can have or do that also are pagan.wedding rings for example.thanks

I want sooo much to put up a christmas tree. I became a jw as soon as I moved on my own and I never have decorated a tree for myself. Whenever I can I sit by Christmas trees and just stare. My problem is I am surrounded by jw family and that would be the end of our relationships. Sometimes I just want to go somewhere at Christmas and rent and put up a tree. I don't know when I'll grow a spine and just do it at home. There is nothing wrong with holidays-nothing. If the Christian Jews could celebrate their holidays after the law covenant was nullified, then who are the jws to say we can't use our conscience today.
I cry because I raised my children in this mind control and total lunacy, but I can't change it now. I see my worldly relatives getting together for holidays and I realize what my children and I am missing out on-family time that is so special. The jws take so much away from you. I wish I had never heard of them.

She thinks this will somehow bring me to my senses, but it just makes my rational mind scream out that this isn't even close to the love taught by Jesus. How many times did he tell people to go and sin no more. Not grovel at my feet and be an outcast until i decide you're repentant. The outcry of pain that must go up to God in prayer each day from this extreme form of emotional abuse for all involved.

I saw this on the news last night. This was a chartered bus trip to Bethel and Niagara Falls. They interviewed a man who said more buses were being sent for those who wanted to continue the trip and others were being helped to return home because they were hurt and did not wish to continue.

The Funeral

the funeral took place at the funeral home.......a witness elder did the funeral.....my brother is not a witness, but my mother is.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Those are beautiful songs. The only way I can tolerate severe emotional pain is through music too. It helps me to release the pain inside. Have you heard Cheryl Crow's latest CD? There is a song on there called Letter to God and it is remarkably comforting. Once again, I feel for you so much. And someday, somewhere you will meet again.
